This intricately carved portrait cameo is a genuine Giovanni Apa masterpiece. Handcrafted from sardonyx shell, the vintage 1930s piece is signed "G. APA" at the back for Giovanni Apa. Set in 14K yellow gold, the pendant brooch depicts Michelangelo's "La Pietà," with exquisite detail. The Madonna della Pietà, or La Pietà (1498–1499), is a marble sculpture by Michelangelo showing Jesus and Mary at Mount Golgotha, representing the "Sixth Sorrow" of the Blessed Virgin. This stunning cameo measures approximately 45mm in diameter and embodies timeless elegance.
